Code of Ethics
  1. Scope
    1. This code regulates the conduct of the authors, scientific referees and members of the Revision Commission of the Revista de Direito Civil, in accordance with the core principles of the  Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

  2. Authors' duties
    1. Only those who have significantly contributed to the preparation of the paper should be mentioned as authors.
    2. The authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of the papers. Authors should only submit unpublished papers of their own authorship, not edited in other publications, regardless of their nature.
    3. Authors must indicate any sources of funding used for the research of the submitted paper. This point shall be mentioned in a footnote on the front page of the paper. 
    4. Authors must indicate the existence of any potential conflicts of interest that may influence both the content of the submited paper and the conclusions.
    5. Authors must comply with the Revista de Direito Civil's Publishing Criteria.
    6. Authors must inform the Revision Commission of any errors or inaccuracies of the papers already published in the Revista de Direito Civil.
    7. Authors are entitled to a fair, impartial, prompt and anonymous assessment of the papers they submit.

  3. Scientific referees' duties
    1. Scientific referees shall assist the Revision Commission by assessing the papers that are referred to them for such purpose.
    2. The scientific referees' assessment must be objective and scientific. In particular, shall scientific referees assess the interest and originality of the paper submitted; references to updated and relevant legistative, case law and literature sources; the compliance with this Code of Ethics and with the Publishing Criteria of the Revista de Direito Civil. 
    3. In relation to each paper, scientific referees are required to fill out the Evaluation Form of the Revista de Direito Civil.
    4. Scientific referees shall refuse the assessment whenever they do not consider themselves qualified to perform such assessment, under the terms of this Code of Ethics.
    5. Scientific referees shall comply with the deadlines indicated for the assessment of the papers assigned to them.
    6. Scientific referees shall ensure the confidentiality of the assessed papers and should be refrained from commenting on, disclosing or using such paper before its publication.
    7. Scientific referees shall ensure the confidentiality of the assessed papers and should be refrained from disclosing the title of the referred paper.
    8. Before accepting the assessment task, scientific referees shall inform the Revision Commission of any potential conflicts of interest that may influence the assessment result.

  4. Revision Commission's duties
    1. The Revision Commission is responsible for all contents publised in the Revista de Direito Civil. Its duty is to ensure the quality of the published papers and to promote the scientific integrity of the Revista de Direito Civil in accordance with its Editorial Rules and Publishing Criteria.
    2. The Revision Commission shall ensure the compliance with the authors', scientific referees' and its own members' duties, as set out in the Law, in this Code of Ethics, in the Editorial Rules and in the Publishing Criteria of the Revista de Direito Civil.
    3. The Revision Commission shall perform a prior assessment of the submitted papers, distribute those admitted by the most qualified referees for such purpose.
    4. The Revision Commission shall assess the short papers on law and legal literature - with a maximum extension of 2,000 words -, annotations to case law and recensions that are submitted to it.
